II Chronicles 7:14

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

All Aboard the POO POO Train

I swear. If my 4 1/2 year old son doesn't learn to get to the toilet when he has to poop, I think I may pull my hair out. (what a weird saying that is! ha!)
Daily...sometimes 4-5 times a day, Grant (starts to) poop in his pants. Its like he doesn't realize he has to go until he is GOING. Over and over and over I change his underwear and wipe his butt.
I know this is gross and I'm sure it's the LAST thing you wanted to read about today...but it is now to the point that something HAS to be done about it. This has been going on for at LEAST 6 months, maybe a year, I'm not sure. Ever since he got potty trained really. We've tried everything we can think of including some of the "bad" things like spanking him for it and ridiculing him for it, threatening to put him back in diapers as well as not making a big deal out of it ANd making a big deal out of it. Nothing works. I can tell he is getting as exasperated with the whole thing as we are. I'm beginning to wonder...could it be possible that he doesn't recognize the "urge"? I don't think that's it because I catch him all the time standing with his legs criss-crossed and a caught-in-the-headlights serious look on his face. That's when I know it's too late.
I am seriously thinking about buying a package of pull ups again. He would be completely and utterly humiliated to wear them...but really, I am SO SICK of cleaning poopy underwear. I am starting to resent it and get seriously ticked off every time I have to deal with it. I can tell I've used up every ounce of patience I have with the situation.
And on top of that....now that Sadie is gone :o( We now know that it was NOT her who was having potty accidents in the floor all the time...it was SAM! Poor girl. All this time we thought she wasn't potty trained yet...and she was getting reprimanded for peeing in the carpet and it wasn't even her! Sam has peed in the carpet every. single. day. since she's been gone...so I know it was him all this time. What the HECK? He is 9 years old and has been potty trained for a good 8 1/2 years...so why now? I've stuck his nose in it and swatted his rear every day for the past week and yet, he still continues to do it. What's bad is he only goes in the kids bedrooms so both of their rooms REEK of urine!
Between cleaning poopy underwear every other hour and peed-on carpet, I'm really ready to SCREAM! I'd love to just throw in the towel and say "forget it" but what then? Let my kid wear around dirty underwear and have my house smelling like a gas station mens bathroom?
Anyone have any suggestions?

Sam peeing is not uncommon of older dogs. Things age and loosen up unfortunately. If you call the vet they might have a solution to that.

I don't know that I have any good suggestions about Grant. I had easy potty trainers, but Ben did most of it. He might have better advice than me.

my husband's cousin told me she was so embarassed to wear a pull up to bed when she got bigger. and she purposed it in herself to not pee in the bed anymore, and didn't. maybe pull ups would work. at any rate, hope something works!!

oh Jen - I feel so bad for ya! As Amos said, most dogs, cats, etc. will start to lose control as they age. They do make pads/diapers that they can wear around the house if that's something you want to consider.

As for Grant . . . . I have no idea here. Haven't gotten to test out my mom skills yet :( Whatever you choose, just stay consistent.

Poor Sam...I was thinking the same thing, once dogs get to be his age, they can lose control of their bladders...I'd talk to the vet about it if I were you.

As for Grant, that's a tough one. You might even talk to his pediatrician about it, I'm sure he isn't the only child to ever do this and they may have some good advice for you.

I'm assuming that you talked to your doctor? I know I struggled each time with my 3 kids. All I know is; how many teenagers do you know who aren't potty trained? This too shall pass...hope you get off the poo poo train soon! ;)

My Mom's dogs are actually on a perscription for incontence. It's worth a talk to the vet if anything to save your carpet!

Grant...I would talk to the pediatrician b/c maybe there is something else going on...if anything the doctor should have some good advice as I know Grant is not the only child that has dealt with this.

Good luck getting off that poo train! LOL!

Is this what I have to look forward to in potty training a boy!! I feel horrible for you. My only suggestion is pick a plan of action and stay consistant. I'm thinking "happy positive" thoughts for you.

As for Grant...Faith had some problems with potty training, and the Dr. told me that she was just being lazy, so to help give her the push she needed, he suggested I take away things from her that really mean a lot, for a day. Or not allow her to do something she wanted to do, untill she can show some big girl self control. I am not going to say it was easy. A lot of crying, but she is much better. It is a work in progress. Another thing, make him clean up the mess. And not just a little either. Make him really work at it. I even made Faith clean the potty for awhile. At first they think it is fun, but after a few times of cleaning up after themselves, the fun goes away and it becomes something they do not want to do.

As for Sam, just an idea, punishment for Grant, could be to help you clean up after Sam. Try to allow him to see what it is like to clean after someone else!! I would agree with the others too, you might want to check with the doctor.

I hear that little boys have this problem. Sam is way younger (2) but he is terrified to go poop in the toilet.

And men are so proud of their poop when they are older....must be making up for it. Good luck, I may need to follow whatever works for you in a few years.
