Need something to entertain you while you relax around the house over Christmas break? I have JUST the movie! Step Up, which came out yesterday, gets 2 thumbs up from me. It features a cast I didn't recognize (except for one little girl who was in the Cheaper By the Dozen movies and Mikes Super Short Show). It is rated PG13---so it isn't really for little ones...but we did let Brooklyn watch it with us. There were a couple of bad words but probably the main reason it was rated PG13 was because of some mild violence and bad behavior (stealing, breaking & entering). The main focus of the movie is dancing and there are a few "passionate" moments during dance...but overall, it portrays dancing as an art. The story isn't anything out of the ordinary---you'll know what's going to happen within the first 30 minutes...but watching it unfold is so fun. I guess most guys would label this a "chick flick" but my hubby enjoyed it...so it's not totally girly. If your husband ever liked or likes dancing in any form (hip-hop, breakdancing, robot, etc.)--He'll appreciate the dance moves in this movie. I definitely suggest renting this one. If you do...leave me a comment and let me know what you thought!
Another movie we watched this week that we really enjoyed was Ladder 49. I don't think it's a brand new movie...but if you haven't seen it...you should rent it. I would say this is more of a "guy movie"...but I REALLY liked it too. It follows the life of a fireman and it definitely opened up my eyes to why everyone refers to them as "heroes." This one is exciting, romantic, funny and sad all at the same time. It may not be your favorite movie ever...but I guarantee you'll enjoy it.
