Gas, Laundry, E-bay, Work, Dishes. That is the acronym I came up with on my 2-hour drive home tonight so I wouldn't forget all the things I need to do. Tonight my nephew played football for the High School State Championship Game. They lost, sadly, to a team who has won S.C. the past 8 years...so they knew they were up against a tough team. Anyway, it was a 2 hour drive there and on the way back, I drove while my mom, Matt, Brooklyn and Grant snoozed. About half way I felt myself start nodding off so I knew it was time to kick my mind into action. I started making mental to-do lists and acronym's to go along with them. That seems to be the only way I can remember things. By the way, if you aren't familiar with the word acronym, it means to use the first letter of a series of words to form an easier to remember word. We use them all the time (FBI, IRS, UPS and so on). As a matter of fact, when we first moved to this area, I was dumbfounded at how to get around in this town. But in the first week of living here, I had on the local Christian radio station and they gave an acronym of the streets here. (That was totally a God-thing!) Anyway, that has been (and still is) the only way I remember my way around here. It was: Go Much Many Salads Your Heart Loves Ranch---which stood for Garnett, Mingo, Memorial, Sheridan, Yale, Harvard, Lewis, Riverside---the major streets in this town in order. Cool, huh?
Anyway, I am typing this post at 3:29 a.m. because we got home from the game at 1:30 a.m. and I started on my G.L.E.W.D. stuff and I am just finishing up. (except for the Gas part...which I will have to remember to get tomorrow morning). My neice is having a baby tomorrow and mom and I are going to take the kids and go see her and stay the night there (4 hours away) so tomorrow will be a big, busy day! I PRAY that my kids will be calm and hopefully sleep on the trip because they already spent about 5 hours in the car today and I know they will be bummed to be stuck in their car seats for another 4 hours tomorrow and another 4 hours on Wednesday! Thank God we have a TV/DVD player!
I guess the Christmas season has officially started around here. Beginning on Thursday, we have Grant's preschool Christmas program, Friday we have our Sunday School Christmas party, Saturday we have an outreach to volunteer at to give food and toys to needy families and it just goes on and on. It will be busy and chaotic at times...but I am looking foward to it too. I just have to remind myself daily to keep things in perspective and keep focused on the things that really matter...like my family, having fun and the birth of Jesus. Not a spotless house, going to EVERY single thing or the perfect gifts.
Well, it's going on 4 am and I have to get up in 2 hours...so I guess I should at least try to catch a couple of zzzz's before the alarm sounds. I won't be able to post for a couple of days so I hope you all have a good week!
