II Chronicles 7:14

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

It's Tough Being a Woman!

Last Tuesday I began a 10-week Bible study with the women in my church about the book of the Bible, Esther. It is a fascinating story that would draw even the least interested person in. If you've never read it, you should definitely do so. Then once you've let your imagination run freely with all the vivid descriptions upon those pages, you can go rent "One Night With the King". Esther's story is a completely captivating one that will be every bit a page-turner as those Twilight books you've been pouring over! ;)
Anyway, the subtitle to our Bible study is "It's Tough Being a Woman" and for the first week we finished that sentence by saying "It's tough being a woman in another woman's shadow." Each week we will look at another aspect of why it might be "tough being a woman." During our small-group time they had us list out 3 reasons why we personally think it's tough being a woman. I had a harder time than I expected with that assignment. I found that I was able to sum it all up in one single word (for me anyway). I'm not going to tell you what it is yet though...because I want to see what your answers are first. So....if you will indulge me...leave a comment and tell me: What are 3 reasons you think it is "tough being a woman"?
(guys-feel free to answer this as well--I'd love to see your "take" on the whole female thing!)

1. because we give birth and thus then have to recoup our bodies while our hubbies get to enjoy the kids too, but don't have to "bounce back" into shape.
2. because society puts so many unattainable expectations on women about how we should look, that it causes too much self-esteem issues. Air brushing should not be allowed-we need to see real people with real flaws, so when we see our own flaws we know its normal and not hideous!
3.Its not. Women are to be treated by their men the way Jesus treated others-lovingly and above all else. Who could ask for more? Praise God for righteous men to follow His Word!

1. because we inherently make it tough on ourselves (sterotypes, pressures, body issues, striving for the idea of "perfect").

2. we often let others define us before allowing God to define us

3. hormones are a be-otch!

Oh this is tough, Jen ...

1) Our emotions are hard to control.

2) The guilt! (okay, maybe that's an emotion)

3) The mensies. It sucks. Plain and simple.

1. Women seem to be compelled to be compelled to be some sort of "Superwoman" who can have kids, run a house and have a career all at once. Few seem to achieve this to their own or anyone else's full satisfaction.

2. Having to get up stupidly early to do hair and makeup. related to number 1, I guess.

3. Relatives. Women always seem to have a harder time with relatives than guys do. Maybe a lot of guys just don't realise that the in-laws hate them? ;-)
